I after a few nasty mountains made it to palermo at 11.30 this morning.i have given my uncle virgilio the bike as I think it will have a better life here.and there’s no way I’m riding it backimage

I wanted to get as much miles done today to give myself an easy day tomorow ,but I forgot to set my alarm so didnt set off till 8 this morning.was beautiful coastline pretty much all the way.its getting unbearable now after 2 so I called it a day at cefalu with 45 miles left to do.i don’t need any bike dramas nowimage

Better roads friendlier people

the crossing was only 20 mins and cheap at 3 euros,was keen to get the miles done early this morning and by time the boat had docked was just before 8am.I picked up the 113 that goes from Messina to palermo.maps are deceiving   As it is pretty mountainous but the road for the 1st time in ages is pretty good.most was coastline but a few times I was off in the hills.i forgot to charge the useless sat nav so didn’t know what mileage I had covered.was a bit dissspointed to see where I got to as I pushed hard.am in capo d Orlando.

earlier in the journey I thought when I get to Sicily I would be  really happy as the end is near.i never got that emotion I am sure though when I eventually do get there it will be amazing image

That is Sicily over the water,really struggled with the heat today it’s defiantly getting hotter.i had from the start the Sicily part as 2 days max.after looking at the map and looking online its 180 odd miles in this heat no way I will do in 2 days as also got the crossing.i can live with doing another day..just! am in small town called Scilla about 3km from ferryimage

they were not too bad once you have done the initial climb the road between the mountains is quite flat.once I got on the coastline again views were amazing .am on seaside town of scalea.now in Calabria imageimageimage
